Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday of this week the managers of Palmetto Exterminators met in Charleston to provide you with better service and knowledge.  Not only was the view from my room amazing, thank you Francis Marion Hotel, but the conference provided the Palmetto leadership with lessons to implement in order to better your experience as a customer.

As part of being licensed in the state of South Carolina, the Department of Pesticide Regulation stipulates that each company perform continuing education classes to  insure each professional is performing treatments to the proper standards set forth by the state and chemical manufacturers. Each licensee is required to have a minimum of twenty hours of continuing education per each five year block.  Although twenty hours is minimum, Palmetto employees are encourage to become more engaged in learning and to obtain more hours  than the minimum requirement.

Since education hours are needed for all license holders, the state association for pest management professionals, SCPCA, organizes an event each winter to accommodate the industry with a location and atmosphere for learning and growing.  In order to keep up with the ever changing events, speakers are brought in to discuss a variety of topics that are shaping the pest management industry.  This year’s focus dealt with environmental laws and impact, guest speakers from DHEC and the rise of mosquito borne illness with the introduction of the Chikungunya virus.  Discussed was how proper mosquito treatments can significantly reduce the number of cases that are see in the United States. Also on the agenda was the topic of sustainable growth through positive reinforcement.  Two pest management business owners from Virginia and Georgia were brought in to share examples of company growth and elevated customer service though positive reinforcement and incentives.
